I Ate My Lunch In The School Library

First impressions might be that I was super-nerdy and/or unpopular at school. Truth is I was a high-IQ underachiever and popular, but only insofar as having a kind of transcendental kind of cool whereby I never felt compelled to play the popularity game. I freely mixed with all of the various school cliques and felt equally at home with the nerdy types as I did with the tough kids (fighting abilities being something that played a large part in being popular). While I mixed with everybody, I was never a ‘joiner’ and preferred to be the free-ranging rogue. And yes, I did used to eat my lunch in the school library.

The library had a sheltered annex area attached and it was the perfect place to relax, listen to cassette tapes of Devo and the like on the library cassette players, read books and enjoy a few cigarettes after lunch. In four years of high school, the teachers never did think to look for smokers in the library and with the exception of one or two friends, none of the other (popular/cool) student smokers ever thought of the library as the perfect hide-out. The nerdy types thought it was amusing, but never said anything to anybody.

So yeah. I have fond memories of that library.
